The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Rolex introduced the Cosmograph Daytona in 1963 and named it after Daytona Beach in Florida, long associated with speed records and motor racing. Built for drivers, it combines a chronograph with a tachymetric scale on the bezel, so the wearer can measure average speed over a set distance. Today it is one of the most sought-after watches Rolex produces.

The Daytona became a fully in-house design in 2000, when the calibre 4130 replaced the movement Rolex had previously sourced from Zenith. In 2016 the steel 116500LN added a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel, and in 2023 the 126500LN followed with a refined case and dial and the new calibre 4131. With supply through authorised dealers limited, a pre-owned Daytona is often the most direct way to own one.
