The Rolex Submariner

Introduced in 1953, the Submariner was one of the first wristwatches designed for divers, and it set the pattern for the modern dive watch: a rotating timing bezel, luminous hands and markers, and a screw-down Oyster case. It has long since moved beyond the water to become one of the most recognisable watches in the world.

The current Submariner Date, reference 126610LN, arrived in 2020 with a 41mm Oystersteel case, a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel and the calibre 3235 movement with a 70-hour power reserve. Earlier references are just as popular second hand. The 116610LN, made from 2010 to 2020, brought in the ceramic bezel and broader case, while the aluminium-bezel 16610 and the two-tone 16613 give a slimmer, more traditional look. No-date versions appeal to anyone who prefers a symmetrical dial.
